History of Vision Correction Surgery at The Eye Center

To most of our patients vision correction surgery is one of the most desirable, life-enhancing procedures. LASIK (iLASIK) is one of the recent advances of vision correction. With every passing year we spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on new equipment to maintain our state-of-the-art facilities so that we can provide the most advanced eye-care. This is a brief history of our experience in the field.
1989
Ayman Boutros, MD performs his first vision correction surgery (radial keratotomy) using the Russian technique of microsurgery. Our first office is opened in Sterling, Virginia.
1992The introduction of the Genesis technique to radial keratotomy, at The Eye Center.
1994Dr. Boutros is recognized as a leader in the field of vision correction and serves as instructor to teach other physicians the new types of surgery. He becomes one of the few surgeons in the country to be approved by some insurance companies to perform vision correction surgery on their patients.
1995Thousands of radial keratotomy procedures were performed on patients from all over the world. The Alexandria office is added to the practice to better serve the community. Dr. Boutros is certified to perform Laser vision correction. 1996 Dr. Boutros is certified in LASIK surgery.
1997The Fairfax location is added to the practice.
1998The Leesburg office is opened. Now, with four locations spreading across Northern Virginia, The Eye Center becomes one of the largest vision correction practices in the region.
1999Dr. Boutros becomes the medical director for LCA vision laser centers in the DC metropolitan area and becomes responsible for the supervision, training of hundreds of doctors.
2000The Eye Center opens its first laser facility and becomes one of the fastest growing laser centers in the region. Drs. Boutros and Reisner perform over 5,000 LASIK procedures.
2003The Eye Center uses new CustomVue by VISX. With CustomVue, a new standard in laser vision correction is established, providing a precise level of measurement and correction never before possible. Click here to read about CustomVue.
2004The Eye Center moves to new office in Sterling. See our locations page for details. Over 15 years experience, and over 15,000 procedures performed.
2005Over 16 years experience, and over 25,000 procedures performed.
2009Over 20 years experience! Dr Boutros and The Eye Center celebrate their 20 year anniversary.
